Ah, life.

One of the things I regularly find myself shooting back at F is “Life is hard sometimes, buddy,” and then I laugh because it’s a real understatement. Let’s be real here: life is hard most of the time. It’s good, don’t get me wrong, but there are all kinds of bumps and twists and turns and “what the fucks” to deal with in the run of a day, much less the length of the your life.

Bills, for example. Paying your bills on a single income is hard. Keeping the house neat and tidy when you work a 40 hour workweek is hard. Figuring out what you want to do with your life is hard.Finding a job that lets you exercise your passion while still balancing a life is hard.

But do you know what’s not hard?

It’s really not hard to NOT be an asshole.

It’s not that hard to hold the door for someone. It’s not hard to be polite. It’s not even hard to smile at a person. One of the easiest things to do in life is be a kind human being. Sure, it’ll come with a few challenges like when you have to admit that you did something wrong, or when you have to apologize but on the whole being a nice person is pretty easy.

And when you’re not a total asshole the rest of life becomes surprisingly easier, too. So don’t be an asshole.
